Cardiothoracic surgery

Chest surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on surgical treatment of diseases of the chest, including lung, mediastinum, esophagus, and peripheral vessels. Other surgical treatment includes chest trauma and hemodialysis access surgery.

The main diseases treated in chest surgery are lung cancer, pneumothorax, esophageal tumors, empyema, hyperhidrosis (profuse localized sweating) and bromhidrosis (odor of axillae), deformities of the chest wall such as funnel chest, treatment of injuries to the chest, surgery for hemodialysis access in end stage renal failure, and surgery for peripheral vascular diseases.
